The Land of Nowhere

Sometimes it’s hard to fit in and find close friends in a new country. Then other times it’s hard to find friends from your own country. All of this friend-finding leaves you with the feeling that no one quite understands you. At least that is how I feel.

I spent most of my life trying to understand why I was so different. My morals, my religion, my standards, my humor, my thoughts. I accepted myself as weird and I loved who I was, but I always wanted at least one person to understand 100% of me. That was a hefty task, I know, but then I met my husband.

He was from a completely different country, culture and language than me, but he felt that he couldn’t truly be himself either. People just didn’t understand him and, yet, there I was, understanding him. For the first time in both of our lives, we found someone who understood 100% of each other. We said we were from Nowhereland.

It was a land where only we belong and we don’t mention it much anymore, until recently it came up again. We have lots of friends, so don’t get me wrong, but most of them only see one side or part of who we are. We aren’t keeping anything secret. It’s just how it is, usually. We are pretty goofy and can also be serious. We love being free but enjoy staying inside some nights. We just ‘get’ each other.

Sometimes I get frustrated not to have such close friends, but then I am reminded of the closest friend I have. It happens with a crooked smile and a shrug of his shoulders before saying, “we are from no where”.

Criticizing like a Married Couple

Early in a relationship we see only the good things. Months later we start to notice bad habits. Years go by and those habits begin to annoy us. Before we know it, we dislike everything that we use to love. What is the difference between this and a friendship that falls apart? Unconditional love.

If unconditional love is missing, in any kind of relationship, then forgiveness is absent as well. If forgiveness is absent, there is no way for it to survive, because all of the things that are hated, become the things to be focused on. This is why it is so difficult to have intimate relationships with people. There is no (true) love.

Wear Love

I hope this doesn’t come off ‘hippie-like’. Nor do I wish to sound like those Miss Universe contestants wanting world peace, because that is logically impossible as long as there is diversity and misunderstanding in the world.

I do believe, however, that love can solve anything, but in saying that, it may be one of the most difficult things to do. Why is love so powerful? Perhaps because it is so gentle.

Loving without opinion, without prejudice, is much more challenging, because humans are prone to judging. It is natural, but that does not mean it is right.

Temptation

Rises out of the body like a famine,
Blindly listening for what the heart yearns

Pressed by circumstances unknown
Confrontational obsession

Faded words
Consuming the essence of the body
Littering logic on the freeway of love

Lips that hunger
Surrendering to passion

The tongue makes the mind forget
A perfect communion between two bodies
Lovers do not lie in the restless act of desire

Hands explore the body
Making the dream become real

Touching the edge of sanity
Beyond the forbidden
No right or wrong acknowledged

Not just a kiss delivered
Souls connected

Dance in Color

Beauty comes from the soul of a person, not the skin. If it came from the skin, then people would be divided into two races: glowing, flawless skin and boils pussing from each pore.

The world is a beautiful painting filled with colors of the rainbow and light of the prism, both seen and unseen. Cultures make this rich blend like coffee beans of many countries, combined to create a sweet aroma of the people of the world. Celebrate each difference together and rejoice with the purest joy and then the true spirit of the world will reveal herself to you. She will embrace you like the prodigal son and never let you forget the feeling of bliss: a world with no skin color, no language, no money, no status… open your eyes and see the true beauty of our Mother, the only Mother, we all share together on this one planet. Dance in the colors of life, falling from the sky like rain in the spring, and together we will dance as She comforts us under her blankets of clouds. Brown, peach, yellow, hazel, sand, white… one song, the song of the earth, joins us hand in hand in a dance for no one and everyone, for the named and the nameless, for the forgotten and the fame, for the lucky and the struggling… Do not simply look at the painting of beauty, jump into it, dive into it, drown in it. Swim amongst its pages of calligraphy and cleanse yourself with the joy of knowledge and freedom.

Is there hope for humanity? I see hope in every child’s innocent smile, in every arm raised together in love, in every embrace of acceptance… there is hope as long as there is laughter and love.

If every continent were connected by underwater passageways, would the blend of cultures and peoples create a unity of love for each other as fellow man and woman?

Can someone be proud of their country and culture, and still accept everyone else in the world or will jealousy and rivalry interject into every conversation?

Dreams coming True

I was surprised yesterday with the most wonderful gift: the ocean. After telling me to meet him at a certain place at a particular time, I made my way by train to the unknown destination. While reading a good book, I noticed out of the corner of my eye the thing that I had been longing for all these months. The calm ocean pulled the train, teasing me to touch its frigid waters. When the train got to its last stop, I got off to feel the warm embrace of the man I love while the wind whipped around us. He smiled, his eyes full of surprises, and led me to the place I was hoping: the beach. We walked on the coarse sand and talked for hours, wanting only to be in that place, and I realized in that moment, that it is possible to have everything you always wanted.
